Why We Study the Bible?
Of all the things that a church should do, why is bible study important? Let’s look at two main reasons why we as a church study the bible together.
For the Lost to Be Saved
Christians are told to preach the gospel. Any time that we open the bible with others we are giving them access to the words of God which can change their lives forever. The bible says that the word of God is a NECESSARY part of a person’s salvation. We cannot be ‘saved’ from our sins if you are ignorant of the gospel.
Peter said the word of God is the “incorruptible seed” whereby we are “born again” (1 Peter 1:23).
Jesus said that the seed is the “word of God”, which upon hearing and believing, will produce saving faith (Luke 8:11).
Paul said that the scriptures are able to make you “wise unto salvation” and give you “faith” (Romans 10:17, 2 Timothy 3:15).

For the Saved to Grow
Bible study isn’t just for lost people; it is more so for the saved! Christians are the ones who will get the most out of the bible, as the lost are not capable of learning much until they are born again (1 Corinthians 2:14).
Many Christians do not grow in their faith after salvation because they fail to read and study the bible. After being born again, we are called to grow in our walk with God. He does not want us to stay babes in Christ, therefore we must study His word to “grow up into Him” (1 Corinthians 3:1–2, 1 Peter 2:2, Eph 4:15).
👉 You will grow in direct proportion to you time spent in God’s word.
